Howzat Travel's Charity Cricket Day 2011 Sunday 7th August 2011 - From 12pm A big 'thank you' to everyone who attended and supported the Charity Cricket Day. We think we had somewhere between 400 and 500 people join us. A fantastic day - loads of fun and lots of money raised! Early calculations show that we have raised somewhere in the region of £14,000 for As well as the information and photos below, please take a look at some excellent coverage by our friends at ...and some coverage by our very supportive local paper Click on the thumbnails below for some photos from the day...
The event featured a number of cricketing legends including:
The highlight of the day was a Twenty20 match between a Howzat Travel team - including Matthew Hoggard and Devon Malcolm - and a team from Egerton Park Cricket Club. Howzat Travel batted first and scored 139 for 5 - including 42 from Devon Malcolm. Top scorer with 50 was Alex Sears from Sleaford. In reply, Egerton Park scored 136 for 4 in their 20 overs. Top scorer was local player Eddie Cham who was 49 not out. Tim Munton - whose father Alan died of prostate cancer last year - rounded off the day by thanking everyone for coming along and reminding them about the need to raise awareness of the disease: "We've had a lot of fun today and we've raised a lot of money. On a serious note - if you've a man over 50 and you've got waterworks problems - go to the doctors and get a test - if they catch Prostate Cancer early enough it can be sorted out." Howzat Travel's Three Peaks ChallengeTo raise money for the The Prostate Cancer Charity, Ian and Steve from Howzat Travel tackled the National Three Peaks Challenge in June. They climbed the highest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon) - all within 24 hours. Well, actually 23 hours and 48 mintues! Although we have successfully hit our target of £1,000, you can still sponsor us and support this great cause! The Howzat Travel team will also be supporting the Movember campaign in November, sporting moustaches to help raise awareness for prostate cancer. Also happening is the Legends of Cricket Dinner – taking place in the middle of November at Stapleford Park. Guests speakers to include Henry Blofeld and Jonathan Agnew.
