2017-18 Magellan Ashes Series in Australia
Inspection Report - Adelaide

The second Ashes Series Test Match between Australia and England will be a part of history, as the first ever Ashes day-night Test Match. The seriously impressive Adelaide Oval delivers a seating capacity of 55,000 (or 80,000 is Adele is visiting!) and is one of the most modern stadiums I have ever visited.

Adelaide is the capital of South Australia and is reputable for its culture, sporting events, festivals, winelands and much more. The city centre itself is surrounded by parklands, which makes it a remarkable and attractive place, and the long beaches are only 20 minutes away.

The Adelaide Oval

The Adelaide Oval dates back to the 1870’s and has gone through a large redevelopment since England last visited. It is located in the parklands between the city centre and North Adelaide placing it in a very picturesque setting. After recently hosting 80,000 Adele fans, it has become a fantastic event venue as well as sports ground.

The stadium is a favourite with cricket supporters and the added intrigue of the day-night Test Match has made it an incredibly popular destination. If you want to get a slightly different view of the stadium, then head up for a stadium climb to watch the cricket from the roof while strapped in!

Howzat Travel seating arrangements will be as follows*:

  • Hospitality - Cricket Club Dining (Platinum tours upgrade) –Please see our general inspection page for details.
  • Platinum (Platinum tours) - Riverbank Stand Upper
  • Silver (Red & Blue tours) –Riverbank Stand Upper
  • General Admission (White tours) –Grassed Area, North End

* Seating allocation subject to change. Stadium map to be provided when released by Cricket Australia.

Howzat Travel will be using six properties for our customers' stay in Adelaide, all located a short walking distance from the Adelaide Oval.

Mayfair Hotel - Platinum tours - Hotel website

Located in the heart of Adelaide, just a 10-minute walk from the ground, the Mayfair Hotel is known for its grand design and ideal location.

This stylish 5* hotel has 170 well-appointed rooms, with great decor and top-quality furnishings that will make you feel at home in the height of luxury. The owners have had the mattresses custom designed, and now ship them worldwide to previous guests of the hotel. They claim one a week gets sold! Due to the property being a converted building from the 1930s, all rooms are different in shape and size, which adds to the special feeling.

Elsewhere the hotel has a fantastic gym, business centre, Wi-Fi throughout and the famous Mayflower Restaurant and bar. Enjoy breakfast with fresh honey from the rooftop beehives, or a drink after the game at the new opened rooftop bar Hennessy. I was assured the bees are restricted from entering the bar!
