Meet the team

Howzat Travel is the UK’s NUMBER ONE England Cricket Supporters’ Tour Operator

Ian Kerr

Company Director

Ian – a huge England cricket fan – is the founder of Howzat Travel and has clocked up more air miles than the average person through watching England play cricket all over the world. Ian had the idea to start Howzat Travel after travelling to South Africa to watch England’s Test Series in the winter of 2004. Building the team around him, the business grew and Ian was able to quit his banking business development job in 2007 to manage Howzat Travel full time.

Today, Ian heads up the team with his entrepreneurial drive and holds lots of the business’ key relationships with travel partners and key cricket figures all over the world. He has also led many of our tours and is now a familiar face amongst England cricket supporters.

Favourite Howzat Travel moment:

“With so many to choose from its knowing where to start! I guess one of my absolute highlight’s was celebrating my 30th birthday in St Lucia and being invited along to the ‘Sir Vivian Richards golf tournament’. The field of golfers included lots of West Indian and English Cricketing greats and teeing off with the likes of Richards & Lara will be something I always remember.“

Steven Eatherington

Company Director

Steve has been part of the Howzat Travel team since its inception, and his preceding career saw him occupy key marketing and communications roles in organisations including Experian, ITV Sport and Unisys. He has a very organised, meticulous nature and is heavily involved in pretty much every aspect of the day-to-day activities at Howzat HQ, whether it’s the tour planning and building, website management, marketing and communications, sales, customer service and all the (boring) financial and administrative stuff.

Steve often conducts the pre-tour inspections and when it comes to the tours themselves, as well as tour managing the odd smaller tour, he will also usually be on the ground for a portion our large tours to oversee operations, host events and support our tour managers. Steve lives in the Vale of Belvoir and is a keen runner – and a member of Nottingham’s Holme Pierrepont RC – so in his time away from the office you are likely to find him on the trails, roads and muddy fields of the Vale training for his next marathon or ultra.

Favourite Howzat Travel moment:

“Day four of the Sydney Ashes Test, January 2011. Mitchell Johnson arriving onto the pitch to sounds of the Barmy Army singing “He bowls to the left, he bowls to the riiiiiiiight….” Bowled out for a golden duck and immediately departs the pitch to the same song.“

Carl Sutton

Tours Director

Carl joined the Howzat Travel team on a permanent basis in June 2013 having first travelled to the Caribbean in 2009 as a customer. Prior to moving into the travel industry, Carl spent just under 20 years with Barclays undertaking a variety of different roles in Personal, Premier and Business banking. This was followed by four years at Mars Petcare UK working in Supply Logistics. As Tours Director Carl is a regular feature on tour either behind the scenes co-ordinating our larger groups or as a tour manager. Historically he has also completed pre-tour inspections in Australia and the Caribbean.

On a day-to-day basis you’ll find Carl taking calls, responding to emails and spending many hours on tour preparation to ensure we continue to deliver outstanding travel arrangements for our customers. Away from the office Carl invests lots of time at his beloved Kegworth Town CC where he’s played (and continues to play!) since he was 8 years old and is currently Chairman and Secretary! Away from the cricket field he’s a big music fan and also enjoys a couple of pints in the local.

Favourite Howzat Travel moment:

“Has to be Boxing Day 2010 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. After losing heavily in Perth and the series level at 1-1, Australia were bowled out for just 98! England closed the day 157 without loss to set up a crushing innings win and retain the Ashes in Australia for the first time in 24 years.”

Charlie Baker

Tours & Communications Manager

Charlie BakerAs well as tour managing and helping to oversee operations whilst away with Howzat Travellers on tour, Charlie has also conducted pre-tour inspections of New Zealand and Australia. Back at Howzat Travel HQ, he looks after website content and marketing communications, and supports with tour planning and administerial duties.

Favourite Howzat Travel moment:

“Basking in the Cape Town sunshine with the Howzat Travellers to enjoy the morning of day two at Newlands as Stokes and Bairstow put on one of the best shows the games ever seen! A real ‘be there’ moment…“
