Christchurch

Inspection Report

Christchurch is a very beautiful city, with gorgeous parkland surrounding the picturesque Hagley Oval. Despite this, it is still a city under rebuild. The Earthquake in 2011 and subsequently in 2015 still have very obvious effects. This had no impact on my enjoyment of the city however, and everyone I spoke to would mention how much they enjoyed the city and proud they are of the rebuild attempts.
Anyone who visits Christchurch will have a fantastic time, with new and innovative options to eat and drink going up all the time, it should be a great venue for the final Test Match.

Hotels

Howzat Travel will be using four properties for our customers’ stay in Christchurch.

The first game at the Hagley Oval was recorded to be played in 1851, just four months after the first ships had arrived in the settlement. Due to the fact England will not be playing at the Basin Reserve during this series, this has to be the most scenic ground on the programme. Grass banks surround the ground, and large a parkland with lots of other cricket strips beyond.

It is a very ‘New Zealand’ style ground. Travellers will certainly enjoy the walk through the Botanic Gardens on the way.

Howzat Travel seating arrangements will be confirmed later this year…

Crowne Plaza – Platinum tours – Hotel website

The largest hotel in the city with 204-rooms, the Crowne Plaza sits just 50 yards away from its old location in the very centre of the city. This property opened in 2017 (just days after I went to visit!) and is full of fantastic modern technology and top quality dining options.

Rooms offer views either over the city towards the Southern Alps, or to the hills on the other side. They come with extremely comfortable beds, a full range of Sky channels, Bluetooth speakers and USB ports.

The hotels offers a buffet breakfast and top-quality chefs preparing dinner. There is also a adjoining café, and all of the eating options were free of a corporate, hotel feel.

However, if you fancy heading out for food or drinks in the evening, then there is a range of bars and resturants to choose from. Being so centrally located, there are numerous options all around the hotel.

This will be a great location for our Platinum customers to enjoy during their stay in Christchurch.
